After a hectic first season, Donna reflects on her first season with the Ladies.

Jeanfield Ladies in 2011 had major problems in fielding a side, losing all of their 18 league games and conceding 137 goals in the process. There was however no truth in the rumour that keeper Sarah had to have surgery to correct her back after picking the ball out of the net so often.

Donna said “the ladies really struggled last season having no coach to guide them on the pitch. Steve has done a great job this season keeping the girls together, playing good football and bonding them as a team. The fact that they came from behind to win on at least four occasions shows the terrific team spirit within the squad. The new team now consists of players from all ages ranging from 16 to 30.

This season they have competed brilliantly and taken points from the top three sides in the league and finished mid-table. Sarah has also capped a great season by being named Top Player in the League for August – what a turnaround!! However as they are a young team our results have been inconsistent this season, so I will be looking for another huge improvement next year as they gain more experience. I think they have huge potential for 2013. I really want to give our youth teams something to strive for and the Ladies are doing just that”

The Jeanfield Swifts Ladies offer competitive football for any females with no age limit applied. They also offer training facilities for anyone just looking to get back to fitness and involved in sport. They train Thursdays and anyone interested should contact Donna or Steve through the website https://www.pitchero.com/clubs/jeanfieldswiftsgirlsfc/
