Jeanfield Swifts Ladies to play as St Johnstone WFC in 2018

Jeanfield Swifts Community FC are delighted to announce the extension of the partnership between Jeanfield Swifts and St Johnstone FC. Starting in 2018, the senior Jeanfield Swifts Ladies team will play as St Johnstone Women FC in the Scottish Women’s Premier League Division 2.

For the last two years the partnership between Jeanfield Swifts Ladies’ and St Johnstone FC has seen the Ladies side play their fixtures at McDiarmid Park. To play in the SWPL teams must have the highest standards of facilities and infrastructure, using the home of St Johnstone FC has enabled Jeanfield to retain top-level senior women’s football in Perth.

Now, to further cement the ties between the two clubs, from 2018 Jeanfield Swifts Ladies will adopt the St Johnstone name for the SWPL2 team.Ladies General Manager Steve Grossi is grateful to Saints for the assistance they have provided

“After we won promotion to the SWPL in 2015, Saints came in to give us somewhere to play that fulfilled the criteria for our league. We are extremely grateful to Chairman Steve Brown and his club for the welcome they have given us. The development of Jeanfield Girls FC has been remarkable over the last few years and this move will really help the whole club develop to the next level.”

Since 2012, Jeanfield Swifts Ladies has been the pinnacle of a pathway for the girls playing under the banner of Jeanfield Swifts Girls FC. That unbroken pathway will remain in place as the senior side transitions to St Johnstone WFC. Jeanfield Girls FC will continue to provide home grown talent to support the senior ladies side. By sharing the name, and home of an established, successful SPFL Premiership team the Ladies management team can enhance to pathway for home-grown talent to flourish in the Fair City.

Head Coach Jason McCrindle was understandably on a high after the news
“This is an unbelievable boost for Ladies football in this area. The girls have been superb in their first two seasons in SWPL2. They will be a credit to St Johnstone FC with their attitude and commitment. With the facilities we will have at our disposal and the backing from Saints, I can only see a bright future for St Johnstone Women FC. It is an exciting time and I believe the set up we can now offer players will continue their development as individuals and as a team. The players are delighted and it’s a great boost for pre-season.”

St Johnstone Chairman Steve Brown commented
“I am delighted to further develop the partnership with Jeanfield, and St Johnstone WFC seemed like an obvious progression. Like Jeanfield, we are a community-oriented club and this move allows us to emphasise that we want to contribute to and engage with the local community in every way we can. It is fantastic to see girls of all ages play football and I'm delighted that girls in this area can now aspire to playing Premier and International level with the help of St Johnstone FC. I know that many of the team are active Saints supporters, so it’s exciting to assist the female fans and grow that side of our fan base.”

Formed in 1928, Jeanfield Swifts is Perth’s oldest Junior Football Club. Today, Jeanfield Swifts Community Football Club provides football and development activities for male and female players of all age groups. Jeanfield Swifts Ladies formed in 2012 is the senior women’s team of Jeanfield Swifts Girls FC, which operates a full pathway for girls from U9 to U17. Jeanfield Swifts Girls FC has an impressive record of developing local talented female footballers to play at performance and international level.
