Jeanfield Swifts AFC V Dunkeld & Birnam match report
Sorry Swifts fall short
Dunkeld were visitors this time to the Riverside as Jeanfield played host for the 4th game in 7 days.
With a couple of players missing including striker Marc Caldow, Manager Scott McCabe had to make some changes to his starting line as the Swifts got the game underway
A slow start from both teams left little to report in the opening 15 minutes until the deadlock was broken when Dunkeld played a long ball and Peletier missed a simple header. The Dunkeld striker Varga capitalised on this mistake as he was 1 on 1 with the keeper for an easy finish GOAL 1 v 0 DUNKELD
That goal seemed to wake up a very quiet Jeanfield Swifts as they started to turn on the type of attacking football we had witnessed in the last 3 games, and It almost helped the Swifts find that clinical moment as the ball was played in from the right hand side, a scramble in the box saw Brown get into a position where he should have finished but was forced to strike from a difficult position leaving the ball to sail over the bar.
The next attack saw a corner from Terry Young whip in the ball for man of the match Marc Henderson to rise above his man only to watch his header connect too well and send the ball over the bar. Another chance goes begging as the swifts remain a goal down
Jeanfield finally got a reward for their good play after a poor goal kick from the Dunkeld keeper allowed Hobbit to dispossess the defender on the right hand side, play a good ball inside to Sam Grieve who made an excellent turn past the defender and curled the ball exquisitely into top left hand corner. GOAL 1 v 1 JEANFIELD
As the second half got under way the performance remained the same.
Chris Tanyous came on for Boyd Ferguson and Jeanfield seemed to enjoy the majority of the possession but couldn’t make it count as passes went astray and opportunities were missed
Manager Scott McCabe brought himself on for his 1st appearance of the season and almost put the Swifts ahead after a corner drifted in and unable to be cleared by Dunkeld, saw the ball land at the gaffers feet but very similar to the 1st half miss, leaning back ,he saw his chance balloon over the bar.
Minutes later Jeanfield were caught again at the back and once again punished for some sloppy defending, Peletier with the ball out on the left side of the box heard a call from his keeper, his delayed pass back saw Dunkeld striker Varga nip in for his 2nd of the game, rounding the keeper and scoring from a cute angle GOAL 2 v 1 DUNKELD
Jeanfield looking to grab an equaliser continued to press the oppositions defence who managed to deal with everything the Swifts had to throw at them. A free kick from Colin Henderson lead to the most controversial moment of the game as Col Young got in front of his marker only to be tripped in the box, as screams of penalty arose from the Jeanfield dugout, the referee was having none of it and waved play on.
A disappointing result for Jeanfield who will be extremely frustrated at their own performance. A draw would have been a fair result based on both sides performance but Dunkeld will be delighted to take the 3 points.
An early stumbling block for Jeanfield but you can be guaranteed they will be looking to redeem themselves with 3 points on Tuesday night against Letham CC
