Letham CC V Jeanfield Swifts AFC Match report
By Chris Mathews
Swifts remain undefeated in 4 against Letham CC
Jeanfield left 7 acres with a bad taste in their mouth after a feisty encounter saw them only able to claim a draw against the league leaders.
On the elegant surface, the Swifts claimed majority of the position in the opening 10 minutes and were rewarded when Scott Booth dispossessed a Letham CC midfielder. Booth travelled 10 yards and slid in Grieve who controlled the balled well and drilled it past the keeper for a well place finished
GOAL 0 v 1 JEANFIELD
A game which was marred with controversy saw a number of bookings through out, Mark Hope was on the end of the 1st yellow for Jeanfield after a late tackle on a Swifts player caused a few to get involved in handbags.
Jeanfield should have doubled their lead when Grieve caught on to a good ball knocking the ball past the keeper and calmly passed the ball for McClearly who slotted into a empty net however the referee ruled McClearly to be offside.
The second half underway saw a different Letham side as they found themselves back in the game, a free kick, 25 yards out played into the box, a header across call saw some scrambling moments as Jeanfield failed to clear their lines and the Letham player found the back of the net to equalise
GOAL 1 v 1 LETHAM
10 minutes later another free kick and another goal, again it came from the home side who turned the score line on its head, a ball played into the box caught the Jeanfield defence on the back foot as it was met by a well placed header into the back of the Swifts net
GOAL 2 v 1 LETHAM
Jeanfield brought on some fresh legs to try and take control again and after a good ball to grieve who’s touch found Scott Phillips, a lovely touch to set himself before curling the ball into the back of the home sides goal for an exquisite equaliser
GOAL 2 v 2 JEANFIELD
Jeanfield were reduced to 10 men after Mark Hope’s attempt to win the ball saw him collide with the opposition to receive his 2nd yellow of the game.
The Swifts disadvantage didn’t slow them down and the black and whites thought they had won the game after a beautiful through ball from Booth allowed Scott McCabe to slip the ball across the box to substitute Coull who found the back of the net only for the referee to disallow the Swifts again with another offside.
