Defeat for 03's in AFYFC debut
By Steve Antoniewicz
Sore lesson for 03's in Glenrothes
A new look Swifts side suffered an heavy defeat away at Glenrothes strollers in the opening game of the new AFYFC divsion one season. Jeanfield started the game with three debutants on the field and another two on the bench.
The first 20 minutes at Overstenton park offered no suggestion of the final scoreline. But the strollers striker was already looking like a handful and he would open the scoring with a bizarre goal. A long kick out from the home keeper bounced through the midfield and evaded the static Jeanfield defence, showing good anticipation he walked on and smashed a volley past the keeper. A very basic series of errors which would characterise the Swifts defensive display.
Joe Jeffers was working hard for the Swifts but was isolated and was struggling to link up with his teammates. The goal boosted the home side and they started to knock the ball around and the second goal came via an free shot from the edge of the box. 2-0.
Shaun Pryde, making his league debut for Jeanfield was keeping the scoreline down with some excellent stops and a combination of Pryde and Callan Dalrymple stopped a certain third. But a third goal would come just before half time. HT 3-0
A change of formation at half-time enabled the Swifts to bring on two triallists and again the start of the half the team was competing well. Some good opportunities were created but passed up again by Jeanfield, with Daniel O'Callaghan looking especially frustrated.
Midway through the half the goal of the game came from Glenrothes. Jeanfield surrendered possession cheaply in their own half and after evading some weak challenges the Strollers midfielder placed his shot right in the top right hand corner. 4-0.
Shaun Pryde came off for Connor Rosewell who also produced some great stops, but in the latter stages of the game Jeanfield conceded some poor goals to a Strollers side by now high on confidence. FT 7-0
The team will improve as new players bed in and some return to full fitness but basic errors from Jeanfield will have to be cut out. Home to Real Fife next weekend.
MOTM Joe Jeffers who continued to give 100% from start to finish.
