03's bounce back
After three successive defeats in the league 2003's notched a welcome win
A motivated home side came out of the traps looking sharp in their first match vs East Fife. The Fifers sat just one place below Jeanfield in the AFYFC first Division but were camped in their own half for most of the first half.
The Swifts were unable to take advantage though and against the run of play East Fife would take the lead. A breakaway on the right hand side saw East Fife drive towards goal with a man up against the Jeanfield defence. The break of the ball fell for the away side and there was nothing Connor Rosewell could do to stop the finish. 0-1
With some heavy recent defeats, the home side would have to dig deep to get back on level terms and they did just that less than ten minutes later. To their credit the opener did not disrupt Jeanfield and they got the equaliser they deserved when a through ball released Daniel O'Callaghan, who showed composure and he rounded the keeper to equalise. HT 1-1
The second half was much like the first, but a combination of wasteful finishing and poor decision-making from Jeanfield meant the game stayed even until late on. Joe Jeffers re-entered the game with a point to prove, his improved work-rate pressured the defence into making mistakes and would get his reward by notching the winner with a cool near post finish in the last ten minutes. 2-1.
Jeanfield could have been out of sight but had to suffer some nervy moments in the last few minutes as East Fife pushed for an equaliser. Like all great keepers, Rosewell stayed alert and denied the away side when one on one to preserve the victory.
An important confidence boost for the 2003' ahead of their Round 3 Scottish Cup tie next weekend in Motherwell Vs Dalziel Boys Club.
