SSE confirmed as St Johnstone WFC Main Sponsor

St Johnstone today were delighted to formally present St Johnstone WFC.

In a huge boost to the team, the club and to women’s football in Scotland they were delighted to introduce the women’s team and local company SSE as main sponsor.

The sponsorship comes at an exciting time for the team following the development of the partnership between Jeanfield Ladies and St Johnstone which created St Johnstone WFC. Their first SWPL2 fixture will be at home on 11th February.

General Manager Steve Grossi commented "It is an honour to welcome such a significant Main Sponsor. I believe this is a recognition of the standing we now have in Scottish women’s football and recognises the incredible work taking place on and off the pitch by our volunteers. SSE are not only a local company supporting us, but a national business with an incredibly strong brand. To have them as a partner is a privilege and I am looking forward to working with them. The deal is over two years so they are also committing to us and showing trust in us. Their support will help us consolidate and develop our presence at SWPL level."

James Docherty, Senior Sponsorship Manager said, “SSE is proud to be the first main sponsor of St Johnstone WFC. By entering into this partnership our aim is to make a difference to the future of women’s football in Perth. The city has always developed top class footballers, which we hope continues and that the players can develop and showcase their skills at St Johnstone WFC. We are extremely proud to be a fundamental part of supporting women’s football and the grassroots game in the UK, through The SSE Women’s FA Cup & The SSE Scottish Women’s Cup. We are focused on achieving greater awareness of the sport at an elite level, and equally as important we are creating more opportunities for more girls to get involved in football."

St Johnstone Chairman Steve Brown concluded "SSE have been a long-term partner of St Johnstone FC and this partnership is great news for the girls. I'm sure they will do the club proud in this coming season, and I'm delighted to have a women’s team as part of the club".
