Another narrow defeat for young Swifts

The boys were back at a very wet Jeanfield this morning for a home match against a very good and unbeaten Pitfour side. Pitfour made the early running and were rewarded in 10 mins with a well taken goal. Jeanfield though were level fairly quickly when one of the Pitfour players was adjudged to have handled in the box. Fergus coolly dispatched the penalty to make it 1-1.
Pitfour though continued to press and cause us problems in the intermittent rain and extended their lead with a shot from distance which deceived Angus and nestled in the bottom corner. Despite playing some good football the boys found themselves further behind just before half time when another long range effort found the net.

HT Jeanfield Swifts 1 Pitfour 3

Second half started with boys under the cosh as Pitfour looked to press home their advantage. Whilst riding our luck a wee bit the boys held firm and soon got a free kick on the edge of the box. Callum ("Chopper") didn't disappoint and his free kick nestled in the top corner (2-3). As the game wore on both teams looked to press and we were unlucky with a few moves that could have brought about a deserved equalizer. A couple of late corners gave us hope but we couldn't find that elusive goal.

FT Jeanfield Swifts 2 Pitfour 3

Our 4th league defeat by the odd goal (and 2nd by Pitfour), whilst disappointing is further evidence of the progress the boys continue to make in terms of being a really competitive outfit. In difficult conditions the boys were great today and gave one of the top teams in the league a really difficult morning.

Man of the Match was Aidan (the "Hammer") who had a great game at left back, especially in the 2nd half when he and his fellow defenders held firm. Well done Aidan, superb match.

Thanks to all parents and supporters today from both teams for coming down in rotten conditions and also thanks to Kenny for refereeing. ?⚽
