Letham Sky Blues vs Jeanfield Swifts 2006

A change to the usual routine today as we played our league match against Letham Sky Blues on Saturday. Bright but windy conditions and the home side got off to a flier in the 1st minute when their striker latched onto a loose ball to open the scoring. The boys though came back into it gradually and had a lot of pressure with us passing up some really good chances. Callum had been close with a couple of free kicks, one of which had hit the bar, and wasn't to be denied the 3rd time with a superb free kick which flew high into the net. Unfortunately we switched off and almost right from the kick off the Sky Blues took the lead when a run down the right was met at the far post.

Second half was very attritional and while both teams tried to play there was not same fluency. The Sky Blues GK had to make a smart save through a ruck of players to deny us an equaliser but it's fair to say that both defences were hardly troubled and the Sky Blues were able to see it out for a very narrow win.

Another very narrow defeat for the boys but it's all about learning and no reason to suspect that we won't bounce back. Man of the Match was Ben who was oustanding at centre back today. It was "Bobby Moore-esque" with his coverage and tackling. Well done Ben, fully deserved .
