Late comeback seals memorable win for young Swifts

The start of a heavy programme saw us host Breadalbane at the Riverside this morning. The boys got off to a terrible start when a defensive mix-up allowed the Breadalbane striker to pop a loose ball into the net for an early lead. The boys were finding it difficult to get into the game and this was compounded on 15mins when Breadalbane made it 2 with a low shot from 18 yards. At this point this was fully deserved but credit to the boys as they started to play a bit and come more into it. A golden chance was missed by the boys and then as half time approached we had a strong claim for a penalty turned down when Aidan was upended in the box after a strong run.

After some water and jelly babies the boys started the second half strongly and really took the game to Breadalbane. With the back 4 looking really strong now and Casper and Ciaran running the midfield we were playing well. A couple of very good chances were passed up unfortunately and we began to wonder if this was going to be another case of what if... Until with 10 mins to go a free kick from around 35/40 yards was wonderfully placed in the top corner from Ben to give us hope. With just under 5 mins to go we equalised when Ethan, who had a great game in midfield, exquisitely lobbed the Breadalbane GK from the 18yard box. We may have been happy with a draw but with a minute to go Ben dispossessed a Breadalbane player in the middle of the pitch and let rip a beauty which flew over their GK into the net for the winner to the delight of the players.

A brilliant second half performance from the boys culminated in them getting a fantastic result today. Whilst we left it late we thoroughly deserved it and scored 3 cracking goals. There were a number of contenders for Man of the Match today but it goes to Kewin. "Big Kev" was outstanding at right back today and never missed a tackle and together with his excellent footwork gave an assured performance. Well done Kewin ??⚽

Once we get our breath back we welcome Breadalbane back on Wednesday for the Tony McDonald Cup Semi-Final.
