Missed chances haunt Young Swifts in narrow defeat

A fine sunny evening out at the Glebe as we played our penultimate league fixture vs Scone. We started the game brightly and should have been ahead in the 2nd minute when a one on one went agonisingly wide. We were in the ascendancy and were creating chance after chance without converting. Our story of the season has been to do this and be punished and so it proved again when a ball over the top was met by their nippy wee striker who scored.

Second half began and to be fair Scone were having more of the ball and they made this count when they slotted in their second when we failed to clear. We responded fairly quickly though when a through ball was met down the right by Kyle who crashed a lovely shot into the net. Recent matches have led us to expect that we would kick on and get a positive result however we somehow managed to hand back the initiative to the home side by gifting them 2 quick goals. The first of these was when we failed to clear the ball after a wonder save onto the bar by Angus. The second when we gave their striker far too much room in the box and he shot high into the net.
At 4-1 we threw the kitchen sink at them and went 3 at the back. This paid dividends as Kyle struck again with a firm header from a corner. We piled forward but Scone held firm and although Callum converted a penalty in the final minutes after Calum was flattened it was too little too late

After raising the bar in the last 3 matches this was a disappointment for us especially as the game was there for the taking and we should have been home and hosed by half time. It's important as well for the boys when things aren't going as well as they would like to support each other in the match as this can make the difference. It's all part of the learning process though and its onwards and upwards as we have the Tony McDonald Cup Final now to focus on this Sunday.
