Pre-season Drumchapel United festival

The boys (and parents) were up early for a 9.15am k.o at the Drumchapel Festival today

First match up vs Dumbarton United was hard for the boys given it was our first outing of the season and we went down to a 5-0 defeat.⚽
The 30 mins matches came at 15min intervals so we didn't have long until our second match vs Shotts YMCA. Despite losing a goal in the first minute we stormed back into it with a classic set piece corner from Casper converted at the back post by Sonny. We were 2 up shortly after when Ethan (on temporary loan from the 07s?) tenaciously followed up a loose ball to slot home. We were having most of the play so it was disappointing when Shotts levelled with a long range free kick. Chances for us though were coming thick and fast and the Shotts GK pulled off some fantastic saves to deny Ethan twice and Kyle. Just as a draw looked likely, in the last minute, a Casper corner was again converted by Sonny with a high shot into the net to give us a 3-2 victory ⚽?

Final group match was vs the hosts Drumchapel United and unusually for us we were in the driving seat from the off. 2 fantastic early strikes from Kyle and a sublime lob from Ciaran gave us a comfortable early lead. We had further chances but to be fair the hosts came back into it and only 2 goal line clearances from Aidan prevented them in making the scoreline closer. However we saw it out with a 3-0 victory to ensure another meeting with Dumbarton United in the Cup final.⚽?

Another match with Dumbarton was always going to be a challenge and so it proved as 2 long range free kicks and a penalty ensured a 6-0 defeat which was well deserved by them and confirmed us as runners-up.?

Well done to the boys in their first outings of the season and to win 2 out of 3 group matches. Especially pleasing was the team winning the tournament Fair Play award which is a great achievement for the boys ??
