League match vs Crieff

A lovely sunny evening tonight for our midweek match away to early league leaders Crieff. With an injury depleted squad we were asking the boys to again put in a shift against a side who have started the league campaign strongly.

Crieff were out of the traps early and scored in the third minute when a corner wasn't cleared and was stroked high into the net. Minutes later though in our first real attack Big Callum was fouled on the edge of the box. Ethan stepped up to fire one over the wall into the bottom corner for a finish you would see on Match of the Day.

It's fair to say though that after that it was pretty much one way traffic and Cammy had to be sharp on a number of occasions as our makeshift defence was finding it hard to contain the fast paced Crieff attack. Nevertheless, despite all their play and chances they could only add twice to their tally as the first half ended.

With a few formation tweaks and Crieff now playing into the setting sun we looked to make some headway. And so it proved, as within 5 mins we had narrowed the lead. We were awarded a free kick wide right. Callum rifled one of his fireballs into the keeper who couldn't hold it and Matthew was on hand to stab home for his first of the season. 3-2 Crieff. We were now playing with more confidence and we're finally creating some reasonable chances although Crieff were always dangerous breaking forward. However with around 7 mins to go we couldn't clear an attack and a pass back across was stroked home well by the Crieff player. Crieff made it completely safe with 3 mins to go when a shot was deflected into the net.

After being "mullered" in the first half and riding our luck, it was great to see the boys give an excellent 2nd half performance, especially given our injury list. The boys playing are really stepping up and that is great to see.
Man of the match was "the cat". Superb saves, excellent kicking and box awareness and all with a pre-match thumping headache. Well done Cammy...
