Jeanfeild Swifts AFC V Letham CC match report

On the back of a shock defeat on Saturday Jeanfield looked to kick start their season as they welcomed Letham CC to the riverside however, couldn’t have asked for a poorer start after conceeding only 1 minute into the game. Jeanfield lost the ball in the middle of the park and Letham capitalised with a nice pass to their striker who slotted under the keeper from 10 yards out GOAL 1 v 0 LETHAM CC.

A shell shocked Jeanfield tried to get back into the game playing some nice football with little reward. After only 20 minutes things went bad to worse when a free kick from deep saw the defence flat footed and unable to clear, Letham picked the ball up on the penalty spot and managed to find the top corner GOAL 2 v 0 LETHAM.

Jeanfield who were arguably playing the better football in the game managed to gather themselves together and after a number of attacks saw themselves get right back into the game, a trademark long throw from Sean Buchan saw a great flick on from striker Chris Bell for Kris Sime to take the ball on the turn and smash a half volley into the back of the net GOAL 2 v 1 JEANFIELD.

That goal ignited Jeanfield into life and after 42 mins a well won Free kick had both Henderson and Young over it, Henderson opted to lay off to Chris bell who’s shot cannoned off the wall back to the Skipper Henderson who’s elegant dink, found Sean Buchan who smashed an exquisite volley into the onion bag GOAL 2 v 2 JEANFIELD.

Another long throw moments later from Buchan this time saw goal scorer Sime over head kick the ball into the path of a glancing header by Bell who forced the keeper into another great save.

Half time 2-2

A strong team talk from manager Scott McCabe saw Jeanfield come flying out the traps and as the game went on Letham looked to tire. With 12 minutes remaining in the clock Jeanfield deployed Buchan’s hammer like throw into the box, stand out defender Mark Hope leaped passed his marker to meet the ball with a bullet header to give Jeanfield the lead for the first time in the game GOAL 3 v 2 JEANFIELD

The Swifts looked to kill off the game as Letham looked for the equaliser, with balls going end to end, Grieve managed to take the ball into his feet and turn the defender forcing a foul, Jeanfield looked for their options and Decoy Daniel moved wide right taking the focus off the middle as the captain whipped in another fantastic ball to see Boyd Ferguson at the back post finish with an easy cool header GOAL 4 v 2 JEANFIELD
