LEAGUE CAMPAIGN OFF TO A FLYER

League

Jeanfield Swifts got their league campaign underway in perfect fashion after they comfortably beat newcomers Pitfour AFC 6-0 at the Riverside. The game, initially meant to be an away tie, saw the swifts play their 3rd successive game at home due to a switch in pitches.

Manager Scott McCabe, aware of a busy start to the season, made a couple of changes to his starting 11, however this didn’t slow down the swifts as it took them only 2 minutes to grab another goal towards their 21 already scored this season. A trademark long throw from Sean Buchan saw Daniel Brown bring the ball down and cross in for a controlled finish for Caldow GOAL 1 v 0 JEANFIELD

Some good play from Jeanfield saw them come close to their 2nd after just 5 minutes, a nice one two between Del and Colin Henderson before playing it down the left to Buchan who managed to find Caldow with his cross but a near miss saw the ball glance past the post

Tanyous won the header from a Pitfour goal kick which turned into a fantastic through ball, Caldow was there again to take the ball on and calmly slot past the keeper GOAL 2 v0 JEANFIELD

Lee Kelman was called into action when a short clearance from the Swifts saw Mathieson under pressure and dispossessed at the edge of the box, the Pitfour striker managed to get his shot away through the defenders and even though he was blinded by the crowd Kelman pulled off a sublime save.

Dominating from the off , Jeanfield continued to put pressure of the Pitfour defence, Terry Young’s corner was met by Tanyous whos effort rattles off the post, minutes later Caldow bombs down the right and whips the ball in to an unmarked Brown who skys it over the bar from 5 yards out, Daniel was left scratching his head wondering how he managed to pass up such an easy opportunity 2 v O

Moments later however Jeanfield got their third of the evening after some good build up play, Tanny’s through ball down the line to Brown , who drilled the ball across the face of the goal to be met by Buchan for an easy tap in and his first of the season. GOAL 3 v 0 JEANFIELD

A stray ball saw striker Caldow come deep into his own half and courageously win the ball before a cute pass to Brown who cheekily nutmegs the defender leaving him standing before curling the ball in from the edge of the box, a moment of beauty made up for the earlier miss GOAL 4 v 0 JEANFIELD

Jeanfield seemed relentless as they continue to batter pitfours defence, an inch perfect 80 yard pass from Pele straight to Marnoch allowed another opportunity as he played the ball across to Buchan, who confident after his earlier goal somehow managed to fluff his lines and miss the easiest chance of the game. Just a minute later Tanyous made himself a golden opportunity as he turns on the ball, manages to somehow find power in his show only to be denied by the cross bar

HALF TIME :

PITFOUR 0

5 minutes into the second half and it would appear that Chris Tanyous effort at the end of the first took everything out of him as he finds himself in another great position just outside the box, sets up for the smash only to watch the ball trickle past the left hand post at a snails pace.

3 changes saw Scotty Phillips, Col and Sam enter the field as Buchan, Tanny and Daniel make way. Fresh legs look to get Jeanfield back in charge after a slow restart to the game.

Lee Kelman’s misplaced clearance lands straight to the Pitfour striker however thankfully for his clean sheet the striker runs straight into trouble and is easily dispossessed to give Jeanfield control again.

The Swifts find themselves in charge once again and Col looks to get involved after his cross turned shot leaves the keeper scrambling and beat however finds the wrong side of the post to keep the score the same.

5 minutes later, free scoring Sam Grieve finds himself as the architect this time, as his ball into Caldow is almost perfect, only for Caldow to miss out on his hatrick by inches, luckily for him though young Col was on hand to sweep up at the back post GOAL 5 v 0 JEANFIELD

Game over but Jeanfield looked to get more with Sam hitting the wood work not once but twice in the same attack after his cross is caught between Caldow’s feet to be played to him for his second attempt but again denied by the post. That attempt brought the woodwork into play for the 6th time in the game.

In the 89th minute a well delivered corner from Scotty Phillips , is met by Kris Sime who brings it down to let Sam nip in with a back heel to find the back of the net GOAL 6 v 0 JEANFIELD

Although a slower second half from Jeanfield, potentially feeling the effects of 3 games in quick succession , walk off the park happy with 3 points!
