Jeanfield Swifts AFC V Letham CC match report

The Swifts met Letham CC at the Riverside and were hoping to make it 3 out of 3 wins.

Unfortunately, Jeanfield didn’t get started in the first half and had to soak up all the pressure from their opponents. It took Letham 25 minutes to break the deadlock when Jeanfield lost the ball in the middle of the park and players were caught out of position. The ball was slipped through and the Jeany keeper was helpless as the ball was slotted passed him GOAL 1-0 Letham CC.

Things went from bad to worse, in the 38th minute Letham played another midfield splitting pass which put Jeanfield entire midfield out of position. A simple pass across the face of the goal allowed an easy tap in GOAL 2-0 Letham

Half time 2-0

Assistant manager Kelman took the half time team talk due to the Gaffer being in the starting 11. The message was to play football, get stuck in and track back. With a tactical substitution and a tweak to the tactics Jeanfield were ready to kick off the second half.

The changes made at half time were effective immediately as Jeanfield came out the blocks flying.

It took 3 minutes for the comeback goal to go in. It was made by the man of the match Young who done a great run down the left wing and whipped in a fantastic cross. Talisman Bell had his first attempt saved by the Letham Keeper from point blank range and it ricocheted off the bar straight back to the in form striker. Bell was on his toes and made sure with his follow up header GOAL 2-1 Jeanfield.

Bell had a look in his eye like a man possessed after his goal went in. This was felt by everyone.

On the 50th minute the Jeany pressure won them corner which was knocked back into the danger area by the head of Sime, Buchan latched onto the knock down and with a dainty flick Jeanfield were back in the game 2-2 Jeanfield.

Both teams continued to press forward to get the winner and on the 80th minute it was Jeanfield who put themselves in front. Brown took a long throw in and Buchan with his second volley of the game acrobatically put the ball into top corner with a brilliant unorthodox overhead kick GOAL 3-2 Jeanfield.

The second half performance was excellent from Jeanfield and it was enough to knock Letham CC out of another cup this season.
