Jeanfield Swifts AFC V John Street AFC match report
By Chris Mathews
Swifts Scottish cup dream still alive
Jeanfield Swifts welcomed John’s street from Glasgow for the Scottish Cup 3rd round tie with both teams optimistic about progressing to the next round. It was expected to be a fast paced game and it certainly did not disappoint.
After 20 minutes of great football, John’s Street won a header from a corner which cannoned off the bar, Jeanfield countered through a lovely ball from Sime which saw McCleary one on one with the keeper and he slotted it in GOAL 1 v 0 JEANFIELD
Calls of offside from the opposition were waved away from the referee who allowed it to stand.
Going a goal down didn’t deflate the Glasgow side as it was their turn to put pressure on the Swifts. On the 26th minute they were awarded a penalty after the referee deemed Kris Sime to foul in his own box. The striker stepped up and fired it right down the middle GOAL 1 v 1 JOHN’S STREET

The second half got under way and the pace was very much the same as the first, fast physical and end to end.
As the clock ticked down Jeanfield were denied by the cross bar and some great keeping. Jeany continued to look for that vital second goal and on the 72nd minute a great ball down the left saw Grieve drift away from his marker who's only option was to foul him for the second penalty of the match, Captain duties were called up as Henderson stood up, 12 yards out and hammered the ball passed the keeper GOAL 2 v 1 JEANFIELD
With Jeanfield looking to see the game out and players tiring a couple of changes were made from the home side and all looked well until a moment of brilliance saw the John’s Street striker take a long ball down and from about 30 yards out on the turn struck the ball looping over Morrow to equalise GOAL 2 v 2 JOHN’s STREET

Man of the Match: Scott McCabe
A game that was end to end, with both sides creating plenty of chances to win the match gave a great advertisement for Amateur football.
Jeanfield were disappointed not to take the win on home soil however will take solace after such a good performance.
The replay will be played next week through in Glasgow
