An away day trip saw Jeanfield travel to Glasgow for the replay against John Street after a 2-2 thriller last weekend, however this week wouldn’t give the same spice we saw previous with the swifts on the wrong end of a 5-1 score line.
Both teams started well and it was the Swifts who almost set the tone with some good football only to be denied by the impressive hands of the John street keeper, however after some end to end football, the deadline was finally broken when a long ball over the top saw McDonald out muscled and the John street striker slipped the ball past T.Morrow GOAL 1 v 0
JOHN STREET
10 minutes later John street doubled their lead using the pitch to their advantage with a well placed pass over the top after clearing the Jeanfield corner saw the attacker 1 on 1 with the keeper again to make it two GOAL 2 v 0 JOHN STREET
As Jeanfield pressed to try get back into the game, it just didn’t look like it would be their day when striker Sam Grieve collided with the centre half meaning he would play no part in the game forcing a substitution.
With 5 minutes to go before the break the home side made it three after a ball slicing open the defence before smashing home GOAL 3 v 0 JOHN STREET
HALF TIME
JOHN STREET 3
JEANFIELD 0
Second half underway the Swifts seemed determined not to rule themselves out and started very positively and after 15 mins moved to 3 upfront to try and break down the defence however with 20 minutes remaining the home side were awarded a dubious free kick which their player stepped up from about 20 yards out and somehow managed to find the back of the net looping over both the wall and the goal keeper GOAL 4 v 0 JOHN STREET
If there was any hope of a comeback at this point John Street quickly killed it off just 4 minutes later when another ball over the top caught out the defence and saw their attacker place it past the keeper for the fifth, GOAL 5 v 0 JOHN STREET
With 10 minutes to go, Jeanfield were awarded a penalty which captain Colin Henderson stepped up, and just like last week converted, little reaction from the black and white as this was mere a consolation GOAL 5 v 1 JEANFIELD
FULL TIME
JOHN STREET 5
JEANFIELD 1
One of the most disappointing games of the season for Jeanfield who are gutted to be out of the Scottish cup but I’m sure there is learning to be had from this experience.
Jeanfield would like to wish John Street all the best for the next round and the remainder of their season
