Jeanfield Swifts AFC V Coupar Angus AFC match report

Jeanfield played hosts in the much anticipated game against Coupar Angus. Both sides looking to continue momentum after victories last week. A game that could prove vital in the race to the title was in jeopardy after some bad weather, but some great work from the groundsmen meant the game went ahead as planned.

Jeanfield started the game well and took only 4 minutes to take the lead when hobbit intercepted a Coupar Angus attack. With a great pass it was worked down the wing via Coull and McLeary. Sime then drilled the ball across the goal to McCabe who timed his run well and slotted it past the keeper GOAL 1 v 0 JEANFIELD

In a dominant 25 minutes of football Jeanfield would have been confident things were going their way only for the weather and surface to take its first victim of the day.
After plenty of slipping and sliding all over the park, a pass back from McDonald saw Late call up and veteran goalkeeper Kelman have ,what some might say a ‘howler’, when the lack of match sharpness meant his footballing brain was too quick for his legs causing him to slip. Unfortunately for Jeanfield it saw Coupar Angus Striker slot home to an empty net GOAL 1 v 1 COUPAR ANGUS

Jeanfield then had a couple of chances, hitting the bar and had a penalty claim waved away but Coupar Angus finished the stronger side of the first half.

HALF TIME 1 v 1

The second half continued the way the first half ended with the opposition looking stronger. Coupar Angus were almost rewarded from a short corner when a right footed cross was met at the back post only for stand in Lee Kelman to pull of a miraculous point blank save to redeem himself from the 1st half.

Unfortunately his great effort was for nothing when minutes later a free kick played in found an unmarked attacker who had time to bring the ball down and finish high into the net GOAL 1 v 2 COUPAR ANGUS

Coupar piled on the pressure and Jeanfield’s misery was complete 15 minutes from time. A free kick for the home side saw all but one player push up to try get that equaliser. The ball was cleared and the opposition striker quickly found himself one on one with the keeper. There was only going to be one outcome as he hit the ball low and hard into back of the net GOAL 1 v 3

A disappointing day for the Swifts as they suffered a tough defeat albeit against a very well organised and disciplined Coupar Angus side. Great game for the neutrals as both teams attempted to play some nice football.

We will regroup and go again next week as we travel to Balmoral in the Ashleigh cup
