Scone Thistle v Jeanfield Swifts AFC Match report
By Chris Mathews
Swifts up for the battle
Jeanfield headed through to Scone on the back of a 14-0 and 8-1 win over their hosts. This game was a different proposition as a changed Scone team looked stronger on paper and the pitch turned into a bog due to the weather.
Jeanfield huffed and puffed in the first half to no avail. The first real chance fell to Grieve on the 37th minute and a brilliant cross was floated in and his header from 2 yards out went wide of the post. McCleary minutes later almost opened the scoring as Sime cut the ball back to the penalty spot but McLeary couldn’t keep the ball under the bar.
Unfortunately the Swifts lost key midfielder Young early on in the half but his replacement Philips went on to have a brilliant game.

The half time team talk was a battle cry from Kelman and McCabe. The message was to roll up the sleeves, win these 3 points and the team responded brilliantly.
Within 5 minutes the Swifts opened up the scoring. Manager McCabe grabbed the bull by the horn and hit a brilliant volley from about 25 yards out which curled away from the Scone keeper GOAL Jeanfield
The Swifts tails were up as they doubled their lead 3 minutes later. A Fantastic floated corner from Mathieson found Hopes head who headed it downwards into a crowded penalty box. As the ball rattled around Hope continued his run towards the ball and bundled it over the line GOAL 2-0 Jeanfield
With in 5 minutes of the first goal McCleary got onto the score sheet. Philips fought hard to win the ball in the middle of the park, beat one man and slotted McCleary through on goal. The on form strikers shot was unstoppable as he calmly found the net beyond the rushing keeper GOAL 3-0 Jeanfield
Things started to get heated on the 60th minute with tackles flying in from both team, kick outs and hand bags. The referee decided in the 10 minute of chaos to only show the yellow card once to McCabe to everyone’s disbelief.
Scone had a couple of chances to get back into the game and the most notable was a shot from 45 yards out over the head of Jeanfield keeper. Morrow moved swiftly to get his fingertips to the ball and keep it out of the net.
On the 77th minute after a bit of calm McCleary added to his goal tally. The ball was whipped in and Grieve went with an awesome overhead which didn’t connect the way he wanted. Good news for McCleary was it fell to his feet inside the box. One touch to control and second to fire it home for his brace GOAL 4-0 Jeanfield.
Minutes later McCabe who was still angry from the crazy 10 minutes was about to be subbed recieced the ball outside the box as Sime cut it back. McCabe had a lot of work to do still as he managed to get his shot away which was almost identical to his first and swerved passed the Scone keeper GOAL 5-0 Jeanfield
