Goals in each half see Juniors through

Goals in each half saw Jeanfield progress to the quarter finals of the East of Scotland Cup today with a 2-0 victory over South League Dunbar United. Anthony Holt with a first half penalty & Daniel Kelly in added on time was enough for the home side who never reached the high of Wednesday nights performance.

Player boss Ross Gunnion made 2 changes to the starting 11 from the semi final victory on Wednesday with skipper Chris Anton & Chris Dodd coming in for the Gaffer himself & Chris McLeish.

It was the visitors who started better & could have taken the lead were it not for an excellent save from Mark Mitchell. A cross from the left was volleyed towards goal by the number 9 but the Swifts number 1 made a great block to deflect the ball away from danger. Swifts then pushed forward & Anton fired in a deep cross which was headed away to Dodd who cut inside but his shot found the side netting. Midweek goal scorer Lewis Baker then prodded over the bar after a bit of ping pong in the visitors box as Jeanfield stepped up the pressure. Swifts took the lead not long after. Fraser Smith found Dodd wide who crossed for Holt in the box. Swifts top scorer took a touch before he was upended & referee Traynor pointed to the spot.

Holt stepped up & calmly sent the keeper the wrong way from the spot & this was how it stayed until the break.

Into the second period & Mitchell had to look sharp following a break from a poor Swifts quick free kick. Dunbar drove forward & a shot from edge of the box was saved by the Swifts keeper. Soon the keeper was setting up attacks from his own box. A long kick found Scott Moillison. Molly was back in the squad following captaining Scotland Futsal against Gibraltar during the week collected the long kick & drove forward & played to McLeish who had come off the bench. He played to Smith who passed to Stevie McManus whose effort with the outside of his foot was easily saved.

The visitors assistant manager was then sent from the touchline following an outburst at the match official who we called a "homer". The Dundee based official was having none of it and sent him on his way.

The decisive goal came in injury time when Holt played Daniel Kelly through on goal. A little shift of the hips saw him find space to pass the ball into the net as Swifts booked their place in the last 8.

After the match coach Eric Fleming told the website " It was a scrappy game in which we never really to the tempo of the previous game but it allowed the gaffer to change personnel & allow players much needed game time ahead of a busy run in & we loom forward to our trip on Wednesday night to Forfar West End in the quarter finals of this cup"
