A Chris Dodd goal midway through the 2nd half was enough to claim the 3 points for Swifts & with results going their way put them top of the Premier League on goal difference following victory over Forfar West End at Riverside Stadium today.
The first half was sloppy from the home side who were not getting up to the tempo that they showed on Wednesday night by a lack of movement in the forward areas. The back 5 were defending well not allowing the visitors any clear shots on Mark Mitchells goal. The best chances both fell to Lewis Baker. His first was when ball broke to him in box but it was well blocked by the defender. Next it broke to Baker with only the keeper to beat but Burns stood up well & deflected ball away for a corner.
Manager Ross Gunnion was not happy at the break and several home truths were shared in the home dressing room.
Daniel Kelly had the best chance to open the scoring when he appeared to have an open goal to aim at but he took a touch that allowed the defenders time to get back to block the effort. From this the away side broke up the park & Mark Mitchell produced an outstanding save to palm an effort round the corner from a shot from 25 yards. Tony Holt then had his dancing feet on in the box & looked to be fouled but the referee booked him for simulation.
The goal came soon & it was Kevyn Fowler who won the ball in midfield. He passed to Dodd who had the defence going backwards and calmly passed the ball into the corner of the net. A cracking run & finish from Doddsy making it a good 24 ours having finally passed his driving test yesterday!!!
With the game going to the dying minutes Mitchell produced a brilliant reaction save to from a Hart header to stop the visitors claiming a point.
A massive 3 points for Swifts that puts them in pole position with 4 games to go.
Next up is a trip to Thornton Hibs on Monday night. Massive game for both with Hibs fighting relegation & the Perth side looking for promotion.
