Jeanfield Swifts 2006 vs BSYFC 2006 - Inspiresport Youth Cup R1

The 2006 had their first ever taste of competitive cup action on Sunday as they visited Aberfeldy to play Breadalbane in Round 1 of the Inspiresport Youth Scottish Cup. Swifts started really brightly and had BSYFC on the back foot for the 15 mins as we pushed for the opener. A few shots flashed narrowly past as we looked to turn our pressure into goals.
BSYFC began to come back into it and slightly against the run of play we found ourselves a goal down with the home team capitalising on a defensive lapse and converting the opener with a long range effort. We ere soon 2 goals down when a similar type of goal was conceded. The scoreline certainly didn't reflect the tightness of the game as the half ended.

The boys though are becoming resilient and started the 2nd half brightly. As we approached midway our play was rewarded when a through ball was exquisitely finished by Fergus as he lobbed the GK from distance. The boys were right back in it but were rocked 5 mins later when BSYFC extended their lead after a goalmouth scramble. However soon after, some lovely midfield play from Shay and Matthew put Fergus through and he dispatched his 2nd of the match into the bottom corner. With 10 mins to go it was game on! We moved to a back 3 and pushed forward to get the leveller and take the tie to extra-time.
Unfortunately despite a few chances we couldn't quite do it and BSYFC saw out the game for the win

Whilst disappointing to be out of the cup at first attempt the boys play and effort was great and again we are looking a really competitive outfit now. Man of the Match was Fergus. A midfield powerhouse today and scored 2 fantastic goals.
