Jeanfield Swifts 2006 vs Blairhall Villa

We were back on our travels today for our 2nd and final holiday friendly down in Fife to play Blairhall Villa. The home side started very brightly and pressed the boys hard for the first 15/20 mins without managing to score. Against the run of play the lads took the lead when a poor GK clearance was met by Fergus who slipped the defender and stroked the ball home. This spurred us further into action and we had a second soon after when Ben, making his debut, slipped a lovely ball through for Fergus who dispatched it expertly past the GK for his and Jeanfield's second.?

Second half was a bit of an onslaught by Blairhall and they missed a fair few chances and hit the bar although a smart breakaway by ourselves almost put the game beyond them. Midway through they then got a penalty which was saved by Angus but just when it looked like we had weathered the storm with astute defending they managed to find the net to the delight of a reasonably good and vocal crowd for U13's match. An equaliser was on the cards but came controversially with goal being given when an effort hit the bar and bounced down on the line, despite some Jeanfield defence protestations. A draw would have been a good result but with 5 mins to go a corner was headed in by Blairhall to complete their comeback. ⚽

A really good test against a Fife team who play their football in the upper tier league and we made sure that they had to work hard for their result and on another day we might have seen it out. Great experience though for the boys as part of their development.
Man of the Match was Casper. Superb in the centre midfield area causing them all sorts of problems and a performance highlighted by both the ref and the Blairhall coach. Well done Casper ?⚽
