Young Swifts battle hard in defeat

It was up to a cold, sunny and very windy Seven Acres this morning as the boys met league leaders Tangies in a league match. The home side were out the traps early and scored in the first minute with a long range effort. The boys were scrapping away but finding it difficult against a Tangies team who pass the ball well on their familiar artificial surface. At around 15 mins the home side extended their lead with a speculative effort from the side which flew into the top far corner. Whilst struggling to trouble the Tangies defence we almost pulled one back when a corner was deflected goal bound but was saved well by the home side GK. As we approached the last 5 mins of the first half the Tangies further extended their lead with another 2 goals from distance which Cammy in goal could do nothing about.

2nd half got underway and the boys started quite brightly, trying to create some chances and make the Tangies work for their victory. Unfortunately after around 10 mins the home side got a 5th after a break of the ball in the box was finished by the Tangies player. Credit to the boys though as they didn't give up and we were rewarded with a goal when some nice play down the left found Fergus in the middle and he slotted home a nice goal which was well deserved. This gave the boys a bounce and for the next 10 mins we were giving it a real go. The Tangies responded by putting a couple of their "big guns " back on and they were able to douse our fire with a sixth. A seventh goal right on the full time whistle iced the cake for the home side

Boys shouldn't be too disappointed with themselves as they competed really well against a very good side. The home side didn't have it all their own way and the boys played well to ensure they had to work for their win.Man of the Match was Sonny who was outstanding in defence putting in some great tackles and marshalling the defence. Well done Sonny, superb mate
