Jeanfield Swifts Girls U13s recorded an impressive victory over Forfar Farmington Foxes in the Scottish Cup 2nd round.

Having beaten Cumbernauld Colts in the Preliminary Round and Queen of the South in the First Round of the Scottish Cup, Jeanfield Swifts U13s' today welcomed visitors from closer to home, in Forfar Farmington Foxes.

The home team got off to a blistering start, winning the ball back immediately as Foxes kicked off. Abbie brought the ball upfield and played a beautiful one-two with Eilidh, whose lay-off to the striker was perfectly placed for her to beat the goalie in the bottom left-hand corner. Abbie was clearly in the mood to do some damage to the scoreline today, and within 15 minutes she had scored her hat-trick of identikit goals into the same corner. Another five minutes later she had her fourth.

HT 4-0

At this point the away side got into the game a bit more, and forced a number of corners without troubling the goal. They were however unlucky not to score just after half-time as Bernie juggled the ball above her head inches from the cross bar not once but twice before safely getting it into two hands.

As the second half wore on, however, Jeanfield once again dominated both possession and territory, and it was Beth Allen who got the scoreboard moving again on 50 minutes, with a strongly struck right footed shot that left the keeper with no chance. Four minutes later, Katie Duthie popped up in the right place at the right time to steer home a shot from Abbie that appeared to be going just wide of the far post, keeper beaten. Abbie was on target again three minutes later, when she beat three players on her own before rounding the keeper for a tap in. And in the closing minutes, Leah Sidey recorded her first and second goals since moving up from the U11s at the beginning of the season, the first being a close-range effort and the second a zinging left footed shot from the edge of the box.

F 9-0

It was a brilliant, composed performance from the girls today. They passed and made space excellently, and made the coaches and supporters proud. They're eagerly looking forward to seeing who comes out of the hat against them in the next round of the cup, but will take whatever comes in the knowledge that they're playing lovely football with confidence at the moment.

Last but not least, thanks to our opponents Forfar Farmington Foxes, who never gave up until the end. Good luck for the rest of the season!
