Swifts Continue Winning Run

Swifts travelled to Murieston hoping to end the first half of the league campaign with a win to preserve their position as league leaders. Although the home side worked tirelessly it was ultimately a comfortable victory for the Swifts.
Early exchanges were equal until Swifts took the lead on 11 minutes. Robertson whipped in a free-kick from the touchline and McGinley's run to the front post was rewarded as she nodded home despite a clash of heads with the defender.
Swifts continued to press and McIntyre almost doubled the lead when she took a pass, beat two defenders , drew the keeper but saw her side foot effort come back off the post. Grossi then knocked a Todd cross just past and then Todd got on the end of a Grossi cross only to be thwarted by the keeper. Todd however wasn't to be denied when she was put through by a perfectly weighted McIntyre pass and rolled the ball home past the advancing keeper. Todd then saw her snapshot come off the bar and Swifts looked to wrap the game up.
Swifts maintained their pressure but couldn't add to their lead with the HT score 2-0. With the heat taking its toll the Swifts looked to put the game to bed early. An injury to captain McDonald saw her replaced by Smith with Grossi moving back to full back and McLeod now joining Mearns who was performing with great composure.
They started the half in sharper form than the first but a lack of ruthlessness was ensuring that the third goal was continuing to prove elusive. Shortly after the hour mark the goal arrived courtesy of McIntyre who side footed home a McGinley cut-back to make it four in four games.
The Swifts were now more relaxed and were creating chances with Thatcher dominant. Smith then cracked a shot over the bar and Todd saw a great volley just miss the back post. The fourth goal duly arrived with McGinley timing her run in behind and beating the keeper into the far corner for her 20th of the season.
Another excellent away win for the Swifts who posted their 8th consecutive league win to go into the break in poll position in a very tight league. All the players deserve great credit for their efforts so far despite a long list of injuries showing both quality and resilience.
Jason McCrindle was delighted to see his team maintain their form "from my own point of view today just summed up the attitude of the girls. There was a lot of changes during the game and they just went about it for the benefit of the team. To score 4 goals away from home is very pleasing but for me a clean sheet again shows just how hard the team is working off the ball from the forwards to the defenders. It has been a great first half season. Our main aim was to finish higher than 6th and to improve on last season's points total, so we will enjoy where we are at the moment and be ready for the second half of the season.
