Tightly contested match for Jeanfield's youngsters
By Iwan Davies
Dunfermline ended up on the winning side of a good match.
A tightly contested match against a well drilled and physically bigger Dunfermline team. Knowing their strengths the girls played a more defensive strategy with Leah taking a defensive midfield holding role, in which she was excellent. The girls conceded early on but could have been further behind quite soon after but for some brilliant saves by Lucy. Anna came on for Zoe midway through the the first half and made an instant impact with a well taken equaliser. For the rest of the first half the teams were well matched with chances created by both sides. At the end of the first half a corner was awarded to Dunfermline and the girls momentarily switched off and were undone by a short corner which lead to the second Dunfermline goal.
In the second half the girls started to tire as they only had one sub. Tessa had to juggle the team around to try and give them all a little break. Both teams had few scoring opportunities in the second half with the difference being that Dunfermline took theirs and Jeanfield didn't.
All in all the girls played really well and the final score doesn't do them justice. Lucy was strong in goals and had no chance with the shots that went past her. Defensively Bethany was brilliant and struck up a great partnership with Zoe in the second half. Leah was all over the park, Amina showed real promise on the right but came up against a much bigger and stronger opponent. Lottie ran her socks off on the other wing. Iona played really well in midfield and used her strength to her and the teams benefit. Up front Anna ran the line well and was always in there scrapping for the ball.
