U17s lose out in 8 goal thriller

Andy McLeish24 May 2015 - 19:42

Great football on show from both teams with Boroughmuir edging it.

With defence and midfield regulars missing, Swifts started with Becky, Claire, Jade, Lisa, Leah, Rachel, Robyn, Ellie, Casey, Kara and Chloe. The girls were straight out of the traps and took the lead after 4 minutes when Rachel played Chloe in. She got between defender and keeper and looked to be fouled inside the box but before any penalty award could be made she hit the ball into the net when on the ground. Boroughmuir equalised straight away though when a quick ball through the middle allowed them to take advantage of a defensive error. Swifts though replied immediately when a ball over the top was latched onto by Chloe to lift over the keeper. 7 minutes gone and 2-1 to Swifts. Chloe was fouled again resulting in a free kick which Rachel curled beautifully goal-ward but Boroughmuir's keeper saved well. Moments later sadly Kara suffered an ankle injury and was replaced by Eilidh. Boroughmuir then equalised for a 2nd time. The game continued to ebb and flow with both teams playing great passing and moving football. It was Boroughmuir who took the lead for the first time with a well worked goal, a lead they would not give up. Sheyenne replaced Ellie and both teams had chances but neither team could add to their tally before half time.

HT 2-3

Swifts moved Lisa to left wing and Sheyenne into CB at half time. Both teams continued to play good football and Eilidh, Rachel, Robyn, Chloe and Casey all had chances. Midway through the half Boroughmuir punished another defensive error to open up a two goal lead. Swifts put Ellie on for Claire who'd played well in her first game at rb this season and they continued to get the ball forward. A great move saw Chloe get her first hatrick for Swifts when Rachel played her in with 20 minutes to go. Swifts were determined to get back on parity but with players tiring it was proving tough into the wind. Casey came off with Leah moving to centre mid and Mirren coming on to lb. Leah immediately showed good creativity from midfield to go with the assured, incisive, passing play she'd shown from lb and she put Chloe through on goal but off balance she shot wide. Swifts were then punished again when Boroughmuir latched onto a defensive error and scored a 5th. Deanna came on for Lisa playing up front with Chloe switching to left wing. Deanna linked well with her midfield and nearly got on the end of a ball with 5 minutes to go which would have allowed a grandstand finish. It wasn't to be.

FT 3-5

This was another good performance from Swifts and with a defence who'd never played together before but they coped well and the team played with confidence and purpose. Ultimately good play by Boroughmuir and their taking full advantage of Swifts errors won them the game but Swifts are developing well and this was the ideal game to allow girls to challenge themselves. Leah was players player of the game and Rachel coaches player but special mention must also go to Chloe who was impressive and deserved her hatrick in only her 2nd start for Swifts. The injury to Kara though was a serious one and we all wish her well in her recovery.
