17s 2nd 2-2 draw in a week

17s 2nd 2-2 draw in a week

Andy McLeish27 Sep 2015 - 23:24

In toiling heat the 17s are left frustrated

Swifts started 4-3-3:
Becky Cameron
Eilidh Robertson, Louise Lawson, Jade MacFadyen, Lisa Stewart
Chloe Robertson, Deanna Haxton, Robyn Hughes
Casey Townsley, Sheyenne Bayne, Kara Mailer

Subs: Megan Sidey, Olivia Revie, Rachel Wolecki, Eve Barnett, Ellie Cowie

After another agonising wait for a referee to turn up, the game kicked off a ½ hr late. Early exchanges were scrappy but Swifts soon settled and great runs down the wings by Casey and Robyn saw crosses go agonising past or behind the incoming attackers. Eilidh pulled up after 6 minutes to be replaced by Eve. Swifts threatened goal again before Kara played Robyn in down the left who ran to the bye line to cut back for Chloe to knock home. Shy was getting onto some good balls and it was clear she would get some shots away. Inverkeithing were fired up and playing some dangerous balls behind Swifts back 4 which Eve, Louise, Jade and Lisa had to be sharp to deal with. After a warning moments before though the visitors broke though on goal. Becky appeared to get down to the shot at her near post but sadly it wriggled clear and just over the line 17 mins in. Swifts continued to play some good passing football and were pressuring the visitors defence with some great balls in and runs form Casey, Chloe, Robyn and Kara. In her first start Deanna was showing great determination in midfield and getting her head onto long balls form Inverkeithing. She knocked a ball forward for Sheyenne after 20 minutes who sent ina great shot that hit off the inside of the post to travel along the line and come back off the other post which let Inverkeithing clear. From the resulting corner Casey rose well but couldn’t keep her header down on target. Swifts were enjoying most of the ball but just failing to find the right pass or get the luck their play deserved. Deanna went on a great run beating her opponent and knocking the ball through for Kara but Inverkeithing cleared. Jade made a timely tackle to keep the game level and Becky a great save when Swifts failed to clear. Inverkeithing looked to have taken the lead but Louise cleared well hooking the ball away from the goal line when facing her own goal. Sheyenne sent a fantastic shot over the keeper but the ball bounced down off the crossbar into the keepers arms. The half ended with Swifts defending a corner.

HT 1-1

Ellie came on for Lisa at ½ time who was struggling with asthma. Ellie went in to central defence with Louise to left back. Moments later Ellie was booked for entering the field of play without the refs permission!!! Chloe broke through but shot straight at the keeper. 12 mins in Jade picked up the ball and made a surge forward into space before playing a great ball through for Chloe to run onto and shoot well to the keepers right into the net. Swifts were worthy of this lead and Deanna came off soon after to her teammates applause, replaced by Rachel with Olivia coming on for Kara. More chances went to waste before Robyn got her head onto a ball and saw the ball come back off the post into the keepers hands. Swifts hit the post again and were getting frustrated. Lisa came back on for Louise and Swifts switched to 4-4-2 to try and get the goal they deserved, With Casey and Chloe up front both girls had ½ chances before Casey was injured in a clash just inside the box that looked like a penalty but the ref deemed the challenge fair. Both players were down for a few minutes with Casey needing to come off to be replaced by Kara. Olivia had some good runs in form the wing but couldn’t link with her forwards. As the girls started to get more frustrated Inverkeithing equalised. Their best player on the day ran unchallenged into the box from midfield and her shot from wide left looked to be going wide but agonisingly found the side net. The game was end to end after this with the girls on both teams starting to toil in the heat. Becky made a couple of good saves whilst at the other end Chloe, Robyn, Shy and Rachel saw shots saved. The match ended with Swifts on the attack when a corner sailed over the 6 yard box beyond all.

FT 2-2

The girls know they did enough to win this game but were undone by luck and just not managing to make the most of their chances. Two 2-2 draws in as many games when the girls could and should have won both is frustrating but with some great play and plenty of chances the girls are going in the right direction.
