Monifieth always provide a tough physical test for any team and the early exchanges of this game were no different. Playing in a more forward role Niamh was winning good ball but when she just failed to get a pass to her teammate Monifieth were quick to break and test Megan who held well high above her head. Gradually swifts took control and following one corner that nearly went in direct, Leah sent in a 2nd great corner that Ellie met well to knock home with her left peg. Tara, Sheyenne, Niamh and Jess all came close before Jess was denied by a double save by Monifieth's keep who would go onto have a composed and fabulous performance foiling Swifts time and again throughout the game. On 17 minutes Tara played a great ball in for Sheyenne to score.
On a very sunny afternoon both teams were working hard in the heat. Swifts put Rachel on for Tara who took over from where Tara left off menacing Monifieth down the right wing. Great passing and link up play was creating chance after chance for Swifts and a great run and shot by Rachel after 32 minutes crashed back down off the cross bar and must've been close to crossing the line. Sheyenne was just to slow to get to the ball for a tap in before the keeper smothered the ball. Lisa had a great run in and shot with her left foot following a sweet pass from Rachel but again the keeper saved. Ellie and Leah were getting forward to assist with Deanna and Ciara staying back and mopping up any Monifieth chances.
HT 2-0
Swifts were straight onto the attack with Mhairi and Tara on for Sheyenne and Lisa. Chances were being squandered but a great fee kick form snide her own half by Niamh 10 minutes in was met well by Ellie to score her 2nd. 3 minutes after Ellie played a great ball down the right wing and Rachel drove forward before playing a great pass in that Mhairi met to finish.
Almost straight from the kick off Leah played a great ball forward for Rachel to score. Swifts were cruising now and put Lisa and Sheyenne back on for Rachel and Jess to freshen things up again as the heat took its toll. Leah was in midfield now and this was to be a frustrating afternoon for her as shots were just off target or hit the post. Leona was immense showing steely determination to secure Swifts good possession time and again. She made way for Jess midway through the half with praise and applauding from the side lines. Jess showed what a determined player she is by continuing to win good ball and on 65 minutes her great work set up Tara to make it 6 for Swifts. Mhairi was causing Monifieth all sorts of trouble but despite good chances she was just unable to score her 2nd. Ellie moved up front and showed what a great player she is. Back in her beloved no 3 top she was soon celebrating a hatrick as Jess again was the supplier of a ball in behind the Monifieth defence with Ellie providing the calm finish.
FT 7-0
Swifts were composed for the most part of this match and but for determined Monifieth play and great goalkeeping would have won by more. Monifieth may not be getting the results but they are certainly no pushovers and will be a tough task for every team they meet this season. This was a game of fabulous performances but players and coaches were unanimous in selecting Deanna as player of the match. For a girl new to football two years ago she personifies what dedication to training regularly and personal desire and focus are all about.
