Dunkeld & Birnam AFC V Jeanfield Swifts AFC Match report

Jeanfield traveled to Dunkeld in a 2nd v 3rd place matchup in the soaring heat. The Swifts lost the reverse fixture at the start of the season and wanted to put things right in this six pointer game.

As the sun beat down on the pitch and players Jeanfield seemed unfazed. 2 minutes into the game the Swifts won a free kick at the corner of the box. As Dunkeld was was setting up McCabe played a quick ball towards the touchline which Mathison latched onto. He crossed the ball low and hard with about 5 defenders in the way, luckily for the Swifts the ball kept bobbling past them all until it reached Jeanfield’s defender Hope who smashed it into an empty net GOAL 1-0 Jeanfield

The home team seemed to be in shock and the Swifts took advantage 3 minutes later as C.Henderson closed down some sloppy play and found himself through on goal 1on1 with the keeper. The keeper pulled off a great save and the defender was able to partly clear. The clearance landed at the feet of Coull who slipped in Phillips and his dirty little toe poke beat the keeper GOAL 2-0 Jeanfield

Dunkeld started to find their feet after the frantic 5 minutes and had a couple of balls over the top make it through but the Jeanfield defence were up for the challenge and continued to mop up everything.

Jeanfield also continued to press with some chances going a begging until the 33rd minute when 2 went to 3. Jeanfield midfielder T.Young won the ball inside the centre circle and his tackle put the ball over the top of the Dunkeld defence. Whippet Grieve was the quickest to react and found himself through on goal. Even his heavy touch wasn’t going to stop him getting his goal as he mirrored Philips goal and toe poked it past the keeper GOAL 3-0

Jeanfield closed off the half by controlling the game however had a couple of mistakes in and around their own box. Again the Swifts defence were up for the challenge and it didn’t seem like anything was getting past them or Morrow.

It just seem to get hotter at halftime but the Swifts knew exactly what was required to win this game.

Both teams looked tired in the second half with the busy fixture list and heat playing a massive part. Swifts had chances in the second half to add to the 3 goals but just couldn’t find the net. Dunkeld had a few chances due to mistakes by Jeanfield but Morrow pulled off 3 or 4 fantastic saves to protect his clean sheet.

On the 85th minute Sime played a fantastic ball over the top which looked like the keepers all day long. Well until Grieve decided he was having it. He managed to get to the ball just before the keeper and with a flicked header followed by a spin the ball sailed pass the keeper for Jeanfield’s forth and Grieve’s second GOAL 4-0 Jeanfield
