The opening day of the season finally arrived and the Swifts welcomed Burrelton AFC to the Riverside. With 8 players missing it was always going to be a challenge.
On the 25th minute Burrelton took the lead. The Jeanfield clearance was misplaced landing at the Burrelton strikers feet who lobbed the keeper 30 yard out with a first time finish. Jeanfield tried to get back into the game for the rest of the half but it was Burrelton who looked more likely to score.
2 minutes into the second half after a team talk about getting tighter and working harder, Jeanfield found themselves 2-0 down. A long throw in landed 2 yards out in the middle of the goal. The Burrelton striker had time to kill it dead and then lay off to an open striker who had the simplest finish. Jeanfield initially looked like they were up for the challenge ahead and pushed to get their first. K.Mitchell hit a shot from the edge of the box that was destined for the top corner, until the keeper pulled of a brilliant save. This was as close as it got for the Swifts, as the minutes slipped away so did the belief and more importantly the first points of the season.
