In a thrilling Scottish Cup 2nd round match at Riverside North Muirton, it was Jeanfield Swifts AFC versus Doune Castle AFC with a 2 pm kick-off. The match featured Jeanfield donning their new strips sponsored by QTS.
Doune Castle made an early impact by earning a corner and securing a free header from the middle of the goal, 7 yards out. This found the back of the net, putting them ahead 1-0 at the 14-minute mark. They weren't done yet, as they repeated the feat in the same manner, extending their lead to 2-0.
However, Jeanfield swiftly regained their momentum, pushing forward in an attempt to pull one back. Despite their efforts, the Doune Castle defense remained resolute. Just before halftime, in the 45th minute, Jeanfield's persistence paid off when they earned a free kick on the edge of the box. A. Abboud quickly stepped up to take it, catching the goalkeeper off guard, and the ball found the back of the net, making it 2-1.
Both teams exhibited tremendous effort as the match progressed, and fatigue began to set in after 60 minutes of intense play. Both sides had good opportunities to score. Jeanfield even went with three up top to mount a comeback, but on the 75th minute, a defensive lapse allowed Doune Castle's winger to break through and beat the keeper, putting the game out of reach.
As the minutes ticked away, the referee eventually blew the full-time whistle, sealing the match with a final score of Jeanfield Swifts AFC 1, Doune Castle AFC 3, with the lone goal for Jeanfield credited to A. Abboud.
