Amidst the bad weather, the anticipated clash between Jeanfield Swifts and St.Johns unfolded at the North Inch Community Campus Astro. Despite missing key players like N. McNicoll, K. Mitchell, K. Sime, and A. Abboud, Jeanfield Swifts hoped to push on from the loss in their last game.
The first half saw St.Johns asserting their dominance, seizing control of the game with their relentless pursuit of every ball. Displaying superior determination and coordination, they mounted pressure on the Swifts, dictating play across the pitch.
In the 9th minute, a towering header from a St.Johns defender sent their striker darting towards the goal, only to be denied by the woodwork, saving Jeanfield from conceding early. However, the respite was short-lived as St.Johns capitalised on their momentum in the 14th minute, orchestrating a swift attack that culminated in a perfectly executed lob, putting them ahead.
St. Johns continued their onslaught, extending their lead on the 20th minute with a clinical finish, leaving Jeanfield stunned. Despite the mounting deficit, Jeanfield found a glimmer of hope as they rallied back into the game. In the 27th minute, a well-placed lofted ball found M. Boyle in prime position, but his goal-bound effort was spectacularly denied by the St.Johns goalkeeper.
Jeanfield's persistence paid off just before halftime when R. MacKintosh, grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck as he surged forward from the backline, combining with J. Jardine to slot home a crucial goal, reigniting their spirits as they headed into the break.
With renewed determination, Jeanfield emerged for the second half, eager to turn the tide. Their efforts were rewarded in the 56th minute when R. Green's precise through ball found J. Jardine, who beat the offside trap and clinically finished to level the score.
The Swifts continued their resurgence, gaining control of the match in the 64th minute as A. Phillips orchestrated a sublime move, setting up B. Potter for a composed finish, putting Jeanfield in the lead for the first time in the game.
However, their joy was short-lived as the tide turned against them in the 72nd minute, with stand in captain S. Carle receiving a second yellow card, reducing Jeanfield to ten men and shifting the momentum once again. Despite their valiant efforts to defend their lead, Jeanfield succumbed to a late equaliser in stoppage time, leaving them to settle for a draw.
