The Ashleigh Cup Final saw Jeanfield Swifts AFC face off against Vale of Earn AFC at Tulloch Park. Following Vale's previous victory in extra time during last weeks final, anticipation was high for another thrilling contest under the bright sun.
The first half saw Vale of Earn slightly dominate, as Jeanfield struggled to cope with Vale's five-man midfield. Both teams managed to put the ball in the net, but each effort was ruled offside by the linesman.
The halftime score remained 0-0, prompting Jeanfield to alter their formation in a bid to gain more control. This adjustment paid off as Jeanfield began to assert themselves in the second half, creating several opportunities to take the lead, though they were unable to convert these chances.
As the match wore on and fatigue set in, it appeared destined for extra time. However, in the 87th minute, a lapse in Jeanfield’s midfiled allowed Vale to exploit a gap in the defence. A through ball was played to the Vale striker, who was subsequently brought down in the box, resulting in a penalty. The Vale player coolly slotted the penalty, sending the keeper the wrong way and giving Vale a late lead.
Despite Jeanfield’s desperate attempts to equalise by pushing everyone forward, they couldn't break through. Vale of Earn held on to secure the Ashleigh Cup with a dramatic 1-0 victory.
