Jeanfield Swifts travelled to Burrelton for their first midweek league fixture.

The hosts started strong with two early chances but failed to capitalise, with Jeany keeper J. Welch pulling off a brilliant save to keep the score level. Then, against the run of play in the 12th minute, K. Mitchell delivered a superb corner which K. Sime met with a powerful header to open the scoring.

Burrelton looked to respond but were punished again in the 19th minute. A long throw deep in their half was flicked on by J. Jardine and found A. Abboud unmarked at the back post to nod in Jeanfield’s second.

Jeanfield began to settle and took control of the game, effectively shutting down Burrelton’s attacking threat. In the 27th minute, a long ball over the top from J. Howie caught the Burrelton keeper off his line. His clearance rebounded off A. Abboud, who calmly slotted a left-footed finish from 30 yards into the empty net, making it 3–0.

Burrelton managed to pull one back just before halftime. A through ball sent their striker through on goal, and J. Welch brought him down in the box. The keeper received a yellow and couldn’t keep out the resulting penalty.

Jeanfield came out sharper in the second half and stepped up a gear. In the 65th minute, L. Bloomer’s curling effort struck the post and fell kindly to K. Mitchell, who feinted a shot before smashing home Jeanfield’s fourth.

The fifth came in the 81st minute when R. Green’s pinpoint cross was met by A. Abboud. His header was saved, but L. Bloomer was on hand to bury the rebound.

Just three minutes later, R. Green whipped in a brilliant free-kick, and A. Abboud rose highest once again to head in his third of the night.

Jeanfield capped off the scoring in stoppage time. From a B. Potter corner, Abboud was left free again to head home his fourth goal of the evening.
