Jeanfield made the journey to Aberfeldy to face second-placed Breadalbane AFC, needing just a point to seal the league title.
They got off to a dream start, taking the lead just five minutes in. K. Mitchell slipped a perfectly weighted pass through to K. Brown, who calmly slotted the ball under the onrushing keeper. Jeanfield came close to doubling their lead on several occasions, hitting the post and firing just wide, which gave Breadalbane hope as they weathered the early storm.
The home side responded with a more direct approach, forcing a series of corners, all well-defended by the Swifts back line and goalkeeper. Just before the break, a long ball over the top caught the Jeanfield defence off guard. As the striker broke through, he was fouled just outside the area. The resulting free-kick deflected off the wall and landed kindly for a Breadalbane player, who volleyed into the top corner to level the score.
In the second half, Jeanfield began to adapt to Breadalbane’s direct play and gradually took control. However, in the 57th minute, Breadalbane were awarded a controversial penalty when their striker went down while the ball was being shepherded out for a goal kick. The spot-kick was converted to make it 2–1.
That lead was short-lived. Just six minutes later, a long throw from A. Smith caused chaos in the box. The ball fell to R. Green, who showed great composure, flicking it over a defender’s head before volleying into the net as the keeper stood rooted.
Jeanfield regained the lead in the 68th minute. R. Green delivered a free-kick into the box, where A. Abboud chested it down for K. Mitchell to smash home on the volley. From there, the Swifts controlled the game, creating further chances and managing the closing stages with maturity.
As the final whistle blew, celebrations erupted on the sidelines – Jeanfield were officially league champions.
