Jeanfield Swifts travelled to Luncarty having already secured the league title. With a demanding schedule of three games a week for the past three weeks (Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday), injuries had begun to take their toll, leading to eight changes in the starting lineup.
Despite the rotation, Jeanfield started brightly. In the 23rd minute, Luncarty were reduced to ten men after B. Calderwood drove past two defenders and was brought down when through on goal, resulting in a straight red card.
However, the dismissal seemed to energise Luncarty, who dug in and managed to hold out until halftime.
In the second half, Jeanfield dominated possession and applied pressure, but struggled to create clear-cut chances. Then, in the dying moments of the match, Luncarty were awarded a free-kick on the edge of the box. Their striker stepped up and curled it into the top corner with virtually the last kick of the game, ending Jeanfield’s unbeaten run in the league.
