Just a week after conquering the Perthshire Cup, Jeanfield Swifts returned to Tulloch Park for their fifth and final showdown of the season with Breadalbane—this time, with the Ashleigh Cup and a historic quintuple on the line. Having won all four previous clashes, Jeanfield came in with confidence, but everyone knew a final brings its own pressure.
The match started cagily, both sides feeling each other out. But in the 19th minute, Jeanfield made the breakthrough. A K. Mitchell corner was only half-cleared, and Adin Philips latched onto the loose ball, drilling a low strike through a crowded box to make it 1-0.
Soon after, A. Abboud skipped past the goalkeeper and was brought down, but surprisingly, no penalty was given and no card issued—leaving both benches stunned.
Breadalbane, undeterred, hit back. A 31st-minute corner saw a flick at the front post sneak in at the back, and five minutes later, a contentious handball call gave them a penalty, which they converted to go 2-1 up at the break.
And here’s where the bigger story loomed: across all five meetings this season, Jeanfield & Breadalbane had scored just 6 goals in first halves— but everyone who’d followed this rivalry knew what usually came next,.Jeanfield winning and scoring 9 second half goals to Breadalbane's 1.
And sure enough, Jeanfield came flying out in the second half. In the 55th minute, K. Brown burned down the right wing and fired in a brilliant low cross. A. Abboud was on hand to slot home the equaliser.
With momentum firmly on their side, Jeanfield struck again in the 68th. A corner caused panic, and after Abboud’s header was deflected to the edge of the area, Adin Philips took over—beating his man and unleashing a thunderous shot that ricocheted off both posts before settling in the net. 3-2.
Breadalbane pushed forward in desperation, but Jeanfield’s class shone through. A beautifully weighted free-kick from R. Shillan dropped in behind the defence. Abboud's initial effort went astray, but B. Calderwood reacted first to bury the rebound and seal the deal at 4-2.
Breadalbane nearly pulled one back in the closing minutes, but R. Shillan made a heroic goal-line clearance to preserve the two-goal cushion.
