Jeanfield travelled to Blairgowrie to take on Alyth at Davie Park on a poor surface that made life difficult for both sides. This was the opening fixture of the League Cup group stage as we began the defence of the trophy.
Alyth almost took the lead on 15 minutes when a free kick struck the post, but that was the wake-up call we needed. From there, Jeanfield settled into their rhythm and took control of the match.
On 29 minutes, A. Philips slipped a fine pass into K. Brown, who controlled well before finishing inside the box. Just four minutes later, a K. Mitchell corner was met by N. McNicol, whose header may have taken a deflection but found the net nonetheless. Two minutes after that, A. Philips delivered another corner, this time headed home by A. Abboud to make it 3–0 before half-time.
Straight after the restart, J. Welch played a ball up to Abboud, who flicked it on perfectly for J. Jardine. He timed his run well and lobbed the keeper for our fourth. By the 51st minute, Jardine had doubled his tally – K. Brown threaded a pass through the middle, Abboud cleverly dummied, and Jardine rounded the keeper before slottong it in the net for 5–0. Jeanfield then made all 5 substitutions and lost the rhythm a bit, that was until the closing stages. In the 83rd minute, a K. Mitchell corner caused problems in the box and A. Smith was on hand at the back post to tap home. Then, on 89 minutes, Smith turned provider, heading a corner back across goal for M. Hunter to nod in the seventh.
