Jeanfield welcomed Burrelton to the Riverside for a league encounter. The last time these two sides met, an incredible 15 goals were scored with the Swifts eventually coming out on top in extra time. This one promised to be another exciting affair, and both teams started at a high tempo.
Jeanfield took the lead after 16 minutes when J. Jardine released A. Phillips, whose low effort squeezed through the goalkeeper’s legs to make it 1-0. The Swifts then passed up a handful of good chances to extend their lead before finally doubling their advantage on the stroke of half-time, when the ball broke kindly in the box and A. Abboud rifled it into the roof of the net.
Burrelton pulled one back in the 72nd minute directly from a corner, and the visitors began to pile on the pressure in search of an equaliser. The Swifts defence were forced to dig deep as Burrelton forced several nervy moments around the box.
With the game finely poised, Jeanfield struck a decisive blow on 83 minutes. K. Mitchell's pinpoint corner found B. Calderwood, who rose highest to power a header into the top corner at a crucial moment. Just a minute later, J.McCleary threaded a perfect pass through to J.Howie, who calmly slotted past the keeper to seal a 4-1 victory.
