The second-round tie at Carnoustie was almost a victim of Storm Amy, and the brutal, swirling wind had a significant impact on the game. After winning the toss, the Swifts made the bold decision to face the gale in the first half. This made possession difficult, and their task was made harder when, on 14 minutes, they lost skipper K. Mitchell to a broken collarbone following a heavy challenge.
The Swifts battled on and appeared to have taken the lead, only for the referee to disallow the goal for a contentious offside decision. At the other end, the Panmuir goalkeeper was in fine form, denying Jeanfield on several occasions to keep the game scoreless at half-time.
Playing with the wind advantage, the Swifts pressed forward in the second half, but were stunned on 62 minutes when Carnoustie hit them on the break. A sharp save from the Swifts' keeper wasn't enough, as the rebound was quickly converted to give the home side the lead.
Facing elimination, Jeanfield laid siege to the Carnoustie goal. Their relentless pressure finally paid off in the 88th minute. A corner ball was met by B. Blyth, whose header back across the box was touched on by N. McNicol, falling perfectly for B. Calderwood to fire home the dramatic equaliser.
The Swifts couldn't capitalise during a lengthy period of injury time, and the final whistle confirmed the tie will be decided in the replay at Perth.
