Jeanfield made the trip to Blairgowrie to face Balmoral AFC in a league fixture, with a strong wind blowing straight down the pitch that was always going to play a major part in the game.
Winning the toss, Jeanfield chose to play with the wind in the first half—and it paid off almost immediately. After just two minutes, A. Abboud delivered a dangerous cross towards K. Mitchell. The wind carried it away, but A. Smith reacted quickest, timing his run perfectly to fire home from close range.
Jeanfield took control from there, dominating possession and pushing for a second. It arrived in the 19th minute when R. Shillan’s corner was brought down brilliantly by J. Jardine, who rifled a low strike into the far corner from 12 yards.
The visitors extended their lead on 28 minutes when K. Mitchell burst into the box and was brought down by a reckless challenge, resulting in a penalty. Jardine stepped up and confidently smashed it home. The Balmoral player involved would later be substituted before he was sent off.
Things went from bad to worse for Balmoral just four minutes later. A superb ball over the top from R. Shillan found K. Mitchell, who showed great composure to lob the keeper from outside the box and make it 4-0.
Jeanfield had chances to add more before the break but had to settle for a commanding 4-0 lead at half-time.
The second half, playing into the wind, was a much scrappier affair with little flow from either side. Balmoral created a few half chances but never truly tested the Jeanfield goalkeeper, who had more trouble dealing with the conditions than the opposition.
Jeanfield continued to look dangerous on the counter and added a fifth goal on 62 minutes. K. Brown played a precise through ball to A. Abboud, who battled through a crowd of defenders to finish well.
A late chance to make it six was denied by an excellent save from the Balmoral keeper, but it was a dominant performance overall from Jeanfield.
