With fixtures coming thick and fast, Jeanfield Swifts had little time to dwell on their disappointing North of Tay exit as they turned their focus to a Quarter Final clash with Kinoull AFC. Played at the Riverside Stadium on a pitch in immaculate condition, the stage was set for a competitive afternoon.
Jeanfield dominated much of the first half but were unable to find the breakthrough. Poor finishing combined with some outstanding goalkeeping from the Kinoull stopper kept the score level, while the visitors offered little attacking threat.
The message at half-time was clear—raise the tempo and be more clinical in front of goal.
The breakthrough arrived five minutes into the second half when a corner from R. Shillan caused problems, with the keeper spilling the ball into the path of A. Smith, who made no mistake from close range.
Jeanfield continued to press and could have added several more, only to be denied time and again by the inspired Kinoull goalkeeper. However, the second goal finally came in the 88th minute. A. Smith drove down the left and delivered a low cross into the box, where R. Gilles showed composure to take a touch before slotting into the far corner.
