Jeanfield welcomed Bridgeton AFC to the North Inch Community Campus Astro after both clubs agreed to switch the fixture, with Bridgeton’s pitch deemed unplayable. The Swifts made full use of home advantage, producing a ruthless attacking display in an emphatic league victory.
The Swifts wasted no time asserting themselves. On 8 minutes, A. Philips won a free kick in a dangerous area and J. Jardine stepped up to smash an unstoppable effort into the top corner to open the scoring.
Just three minutes later it was two. Slick passing saw the ball worked into R.Shillan on the corner, whose low cross found A. Philips. The Bridgeton keeper did well to save from close range, but K. Mitchell reacted quickest to bundle home the rebound.
The Swifts continued to dominate and made it 3–0 on 24 minutes when R. Shillan delivered a corner that B. Blyth met with a powerful header, giving the keeper no chance.
Goal number four arrived on 34 minutes. K. Brown played R. Gillies in down the flank, and his cut-back was met by J. Jardine, who finished from close range for his second of the afternoon.
Jeanfield weren’t finished before the break. A superb ball down the line released A. Smith, whose low cross picked out K. Brown at the penalty spot. Brown kept his composure and rifled into the far corner to make it 5–0 at half-time.
The Swifts carried the momentum into the second half. Five minutes after the restart, K. Brown delivered a cross that K. Mitchell met with an unorthodox swivel volley, adding a sixth.
Bridgeton pulled one back on 55 minutes after a soft penalty was awarded for a handball in the box, which they converted.
Any hope of a comeback was quickly extinguished. On 63 minutes, a defensive header back from a goal kick allowed J. Jardine to pounce. The keeper got a touch, but R. Gillies was on hand to smash home the rebound.
Just two minutes later, relentless pressing paid off again. K. Brown fired a low cross into the box and J. Jardine reacted sharply to poke past the keeper and complete his hat-trick.
The goals kept coming. On 68 minutes, Jardine slid in A. Abboud, who calmly dinked the ball to the back post.
Then on 74 minutes, Abboud returned the favour with a low cross that K. Brown swept into the far corner.
Jeanfield rounded off a remarkable afternoon on 89 minutes when A. Abboud picked out J. Jardine once more, and the forward found the back post to cap a sensational individual performance.
