Jeanfield welcomed Dundee’s Castlemill Athletic AFC to Riverside Stadium for a North of Tay Cup quarter-final clash. With the senior side away, the match was played on the main pitch inside the stadium—set in fantastic condition under perfect weather, creating a brilliant occasion, matched by a strong turnout from the supporters.
Both sides started brightly, creating early chances, but it was the visitors who struck first. On 23 minutes, during a spell where Jeanfield were applying pressure, Castlemill delivered a deep cross into the box. The defence hesitated instead of attacking the ball, allowing the striker a free header which came off the post and in.
That goal lifted the visitors, who began to control the midfield and looked the more dangerous side, though they couldn’t find the finish to extend their lead.
Jeanfield gradually adapted to the larger pitch and found their way back into the game. On 35 minutes, K. Brown played a clever ball through to A. Abboud, who was brought down in the box. The referee pointed to the spot, and J. Jardine stepped up to confidently smash home the equaliser.
Castlemill pushed again, but it was the Swifts who struck next. On 41 minutes, a perfectly timed run from A. Abboud saw him beat the offside trap before squaring to J. Jardine, who had the simple task of finishing from five yards out. The visitors protested for offside, but the goal stood—one to review when the Veo footage is available.
Despite continued pressure from Castlemill, Jeanfield went into the break with a 2-1 lead.
The Swifts emerged for the second half with renewed energy and intent, raising their levels significantly. Castlemill, having put so much into the first half, began to tire—and Jeanfield took full advantage, dominating proceedings.
On 59 minutes, Jeanfield extended their lead. R. Shillan’s low cross found J. Jardine, whose effort was saved on the line, but A. Abboud reacted quickest to smash home the rebound and make it 3-1.
The game was effectively put to bed on 72 minutes when R. Shillan’s corner was met by B. Blyth, who volleyed home from 10 yards to cap off a commanding performance.
From there, Jeanfield played with confidence and control, dictating the tempo and limiting Castlemill to very little as the visitors visibly ran out of energy.
There was still time for two more goals in injury time. On 91 minutes, K. Mitchell switched play to M. Hunter, who cut inside, beat his man, and delicately lobbed the keeper with a composed finish. Then, in the 93rd minute, S. Philips slipped in B. Calderwood, who powered his effort past the keeper to complete the scoring.
A dominant second-half display sealed an impressive victory and a place in the semi-finals.
