Jeanfield travelled to Almondbank knowing nothing less than three points would do in their push to stay top of the league.
The first half proved to be a tight, frustrating affair. Both sides pressed for the breakthrough but struggled to find that final touch, with defences on top and chances limited. As the half wore on, Jeanfield’s frustration began to creep in as Bridgeton held firm.
The Swifts emerged after the break with renewed purpose, and it didn’t take long to make it count. Just two minutes into the second half, A. Abboud drove down the flank and delivered a dangerous cross into the box. A Bridgeton defender handled under pressure, leaving the referee with no hesitation in pointing to the spot. J. Jardine stepped up confidently and fired the penalty home to give Jeanfield the lead.
With the pressure lifted, Jeanfield began to play with more freedom and control. Their second goal arrived on 72 minutes, starting with Jardine again, who broke down the right before sliding a low ball across goal. K. Mitchell met it at the front post and finished from close range to double the advantage.
Bridgeton looked to respond and forced a few moments of concern, but solid defending and assured goalkeeping kept them at bay.
The result was put beyond doubt in the 87th minute. A. Phillips was fouled inside the box after a push, earning Jeanfield a second penalty of the night. B. Calderwood made no mistake from the spot, sealing the victory.
Frustration boiled over for Bridgeton late on, as they were reduced to ten men following a dismissal for dissent, rounding off a difficult end to the match for the hosts.
