Jeanfield made the trip to Glenesk Park in Dundee to face Lochee United in the North of Tay Cup semi-final, with both sides looking to book a place in the final.

The game started at a good tempo, with both teams settling quickly into the contest. It was Lochee who struck first on 17 minutes, capitalising on a poorly defended corner as their striker finished from close range.

The Swifts responded almost immediately. Just three minutes later, a well-weighted ball from A. Phillips found K. Mitchell, who turned his defender brilliantly before bending a superb effort into the far corner to level the match in style.

Jeanfield began to gain control as the half progressed, creating the better passages of play, but were unable to find a second goal before the break.

The second half saw the Swifts step things up another level. They created several good chances to take the lead, but a combination of wasteful finishing and resolute Lochee defending kept the scores level. Lochee themselves had a big opportunity but failed to hit the target, and the game remained finely poised at full time.

With nothing to separate the sides, the match went into extra time. As fatigue began to show, the game took a controversial turn in the 99th minute. Despite the linesman indicating for a throw-in, the referee instead produced a second yellow card for a Jeanfield player, reducing the Swifts to ten men — a decision that left players and supporters stunned.

Moments later, Lochee were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box. The resulting effort took a deflection off the wall and looped over the Jeanfield keeper to give Lochee the advantage.

Despite the setback, Jeanfield refused to lie down and pushed forward in search of an equaliser, even with ten men. Their chance came late on when R. Gillies was brought down in the box, earning a penalty. A. Abboud stepped up, but the Lochee goalkeeper produced a crucial save to deny the Swifts a way back into the game.

Man of the match was Kyle Mitchell who scored a cracking goal , created numerous scoring opportunities and ran himself into the ground.

We echo Lochee's small note about the game, Extra Time was a complete farce due to the lighting conditions and only being let in 1 hour before kick off wasn't right.
