Jeanfield faced Letham Community Club in the Perth & District Cup Final on Letham’s home turf, coming into the match on the back of a relentless run of fixtures while also missing a couple of key players.
It was Letham who struck first, taking the lead after just four minutes. A strong challenge on a Jeanfield player was waved on by the referee, allowing Letham to break quickly, and their striker calmly finished one-on-one.
Letham doubled their advantage in the 27th minute, capitalising on a corner as their forward found space in the box to head home unchallenged.
The Swifts’ evening took another blow shortly after, when a free-kick caused chaos in the box. An initial effort was cleared off the line, followed by a series of desperate blocks by the Jeanfield keeper, but Letham eventually forced the ball over to extend their lead.
Jeanfield were handed a lifeline just before the break. In the 43rd minute, A. Philips won possession and drove through on goal. Although the defender managed to get a touch back to the keeper, it fell short, allowing Philips to nip in and finish.
The second half demanded a response from Jeanfield, but they struggled to find their rhythm early on, with Letham continuing to pose a threat. However, the game shifted in the 53rd minute when A. Abboud was brought down in the box. J. Jardine stepped up and confidently converted the penalty to pull it back to 3-2.
With plenty of time remaining, Jeanfield pushed hard for an equaliser but couldn’t find the breakthrough. Letham were reduced to ten men in the 85th minute after a second yellow card, yet despite late pressure, the Swifts were denied—hitting the post twice in extra time in a frustrating finish to the final.
